Why Large Tile?
If you have already started shopping for a new floor, you have probably noticed that today tiles are much bigger then they used to be 10 years ago.
Many people think that those sizes are for big houses with big open spaces. So are not for them. In reality, the size of the tiles has nothing to do with the size of the floor. On the contrary, large format tiles are there to create a cleaner, more spacious interiors. If you have 18″ x 18″ tiles on your floor, probably it’s because it was the biggest size available back then. Today, factories developed better methods and they can even make slabs bigger than countertops.
Large tile means lesser tiles to install. Lesser tiles mean lesser grout and more seamless floors.
For examples: If we assume that you have 800 sqf to cover, you need 200 pieces of 24”x24” tiles, and your floor is 200 times bigger than your tile.
However, if you were to choose 18×18 tiles to cover 800 sqf, you were to need 355 tiles to install or 288 pieces of 20×20 tiles.
As there will be grout around every single tile, 18×18 tiles will result almost 100%, 20×20 50% more grout in your floor as you can see in the example, bigger tiles result in more seamless floors.
