PEI Doesn’t Make Your Wood Look Porcelain More Durable.

Whereas porcelain is a product within the ceramic group, it’s a denser and harder material with lower water absorption. Therefore, wood look porcelain tiles provide better resistance for impacts, and they have greater longevity compared to ceramic tiles.

What’s PEI

Most ceramic and porcelain products are covered with a protective layer that’s called Glaze. “PEI is the misuse” of  “ASTM C1027.19” which is indeed visible abrasion classification.

These are classifications of ASTM C1027.19 (2019 edition) :

  1. Class5: Heavy Commercial: suitable for intense commercial and all residential.
  2. Class4:  Commercial: suitable for medium commercial and all residential.
  3. Class3: Heavy Residential, Light Commercial; suitable for all residential, average abrasion.

A Class 5 value is “suggested” for high traffic areas. However, a glazed tile doesn’t have the resilience to endure in a shopping mall or public places. Such areas require a different type of porcelain tile that is called Technical Porcelain.

The glaze doesn’t make your wood tile strong. The porcelain body does.

Glazed porcelain tiles are ideal for residential and light commercial areas. However, no matter how high the ASTM C1027 class of ceramic your tile, It won’t last as much the porcelain tile. Wood look porcelain “Loire Sand” is a true porcelain tile with water absorption below 0.1%  and it’s 5 times harder than traditional porcelain tiles. It’s suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.

Porcelain may get hot under the sun.

We do not suggest ceramic or porcelain tiles for outdoor areas where shoes or sandals are not worn as they may get hot under the sun. Other than that, wood looking porcelain tiles are excellent choices for all interior and exteriors applications. Moreover, Loire Sand comes with a surface that can perform well in wet areas, and It’s a safer choice for bathroom and kitchen floors. Also, all porcelain tiles are suitable for all types of interior and exterior wall applications. You can give an amazing exterior look to your house with Loire Sand, or you can use it to create a shower that will stand out. You can also use it for an accent wall in your living to mount your tv on.
