Why Large Tile
If you have already started shopping for a new floor, you have probably noticed that most of the tiles that we have today are big. Maybe even too big.
Biggest problem of porcelain industry is the flatness of the tile. In the past, sizes like 24×24 and up were very hard to produce within acceptable flatness limits.
However, more developed methods of today made it possible to produce larger sizes and made it available to everybody.
Large tile means lesser tiles to install. Lesser tiles mean lesser grout and more seamless floors.
The size of the tile is not relevant to the size of the floor. No matter how big is the tile, it is still much smaller than even your bathroom or kitchen floor.
For examples : If we assume that you have 800 sf floor to cover, you need 200 pieces of 24”x24” tiles and your floor is 200 times bigger than your tile.
However, if you were to choose 18×18 tiles to cover 800 sqf flooring area, you were to need 355 tiles to install or 288 pieces of 20×20 tiles.
As there will be grout around every single tile, 18×18 tiles will result almost 100%, 20×20 50% more grout in your floor as you can see in the example, bigger tiles result in more seamless floors.
