Porcelain tiles are fired with a warping angle to prevent the porcelain body from cracking under extremely high temperatures. The angle is so narrow that the tile’s warpage is unnoticeable in a good tile. However, if the quality of the porcelain body is a little compromised, tiles can not be installed with grout joints closer than 1/8″. However, technically the tile is still within the warpage limits. Therefore, rectified doesn’t necessarily mean close grout joints or pressed doesn’t mean big grout joints. High quality pressed tiles can result in close grout joints in the hands of a good installer. Besides, pressed tiles a little curved edges are more forgiven for tile over tile and thin-set installation.
