Beige is a good choice when you want a floor or wall that feels warm but still neutral. It can soften a space without introducing a strong color, allowing the design of the tile, furniture, cabinetry, and other materials to provide the character.
A neutral color provides a background that can work with many different color combinations, and beige does exactly that. Unlike a stronger color that may determine the direction of the entire room, beige can sit comfortably alongside both other neutrals and more pronounced accent colors.
Not every beige has the same undertone. Warm beiges lean toward cream, yellow, or brown, while cooler beiges move toward grey and taupe. Choosing between them should take the other permanent colors in the room into consideration, particularly cabinetry, countertops, and wall finishes.
Beige is not limited to traditional interiors. Depending on the tile design, it can work with minimalist and contemporary spaces as easily as Mediterranean, organic, or transitional designs. A cleaner beige can create a very modern appearance, while warmer and more textured beige tiles can emphasize a natural or traditional style.
