Grey is a good choice when you want a neutral background with more definition than white. It can anchor the other colors and materials in the room without becoming the dominant design element. Depending on the shade, grey can create anything from a light and understated space to a darker, more dramatic interior.
Warm greys contain beige, brown, or taupe undertones, while cooler greys can lean toward blue or other cooler tones. The difference can completely change how the tile feels in a room, particularly when it is placed next to wood cabinetry, countertops, wall colors, and different types of lighting.
Not every beige has the same undertone. Warm beiges lean toward cream, yellow, or brown, while cooler beiges move toward grey and taupe. Choosing between them should take the other permanent colors in the room into consideration, particularly cabinetry, countertops, and wall finishes.
Grey works particularly well with contemporary, minimalist, industrial, and transitional interiors, but it is not limited to those styles. A light warm grey can create a softer and more natural space, while darker or cooler greys can produce a stronger architectural or contemporary appearance.
