Description
Portland Stone is an Italian porcelain tile defined by its soft design and exceptionally light tones. Available in White and Beige, both colors create a warm, organic appearance without introducing a strong or busy pattern. White features a whitish background that receives a subtle warm hue from the light beige texture throughout its design. Beige offers a very light beige color with the same understated stone-inspired character. In comparison, the White option is lighter than the Beige option, while either color is ideal for anyone looking for an organic feel and a minimal design in a floor tile. Its gentle texture and pale coloring allow the floor to become a warm, light foundation on which the rest of the interior can be built. The design remains visible enough to add natural character while still maintaining a quiet and balanced appearance.
Suitable for both residential and commercial projects, Portland Stone combines Italian manufacturing with the longevity and easy maintenance of porcelain tile. It can be installed on interior floors as well as bathroom and shower walls, making it suitable for a wide range of applications throughout a property.
As with any flooring surface, care should always be taken when the tile is wet, regardless of its published slip rating.
Where to Use This Tile, and How Tile Finishes Work
Porcelain tile can be used as floor or wall tile in almost any interior room, except for shower pans. Once installed, porcelain tiles are waterproof, frost-resistant, and heat-resistant. Porcelain tiles are also excellent choices for exterior walls.
Standard matte, satin, and polished finishes usually have similar slip-resistance levels unless the tile is specifically rated as an In & Out or Grip finish.
For pool areas, a Grip finish is preferred. For outdoor areas that may get wet, an In & Out finish is usually the better choice. However, any wet surface can become slippery depending on the angle, speed, amount of water, and how the area is used, so caution is always required.
A DCOF rating above 0.42 is considered the beginning level of slip resistance. Tiles with more surface friction usually attract more dirt and dust, which is why they are generally preferred for outdoor areas.
