Moreover, Selandia Haya is a fantastic hardwood alternative that offers better longevity that laminate, vinyl, and engineered wood. As well as easier maintenance for long lasting quality. This extremely hard tile is very resistant to scratches and it’s a safer choice for bathroom and kitchen floors. This attribute makes it a very versatile and unique tile choice.

8×48 rectified porcelain tile in the matte finish. Made in Spain.

Water Absorption

The only difference between porcelain and ceramic is water absorption. A porcelain tile is a ceramic tile with water absorption of 0.5%.  Therefore, water absorption is the single technical value to define the hardness of a tile. Selandia Haya’s water absorption is below 0.5%.

Harder tiles are technically more durable. However, the durability of the tile doesn’t only depend on the tile. This is also true of Selandia Haya. It also depends on the installation and the quality of the setting materials. You may want to make sure that your installer is using a good adhesive and installing your tiles without leaving hollow spots under the tiles.

Where to Use This Tile, and How Tile Finishes Work

Porcelain tile can be suitable for most interior and exterior floor and wall applications when properly selected and installed over a suitable substrate using appropriate setting materials, grout, and waterproofing where required. Under ANSI A137.1, porcelain tile has a water absorption rate of 0.5% or less. In showers and other wet areas, porcelain tile is widely used, but the tile and grout alone do not create a waterproof installation. Proper substrates, setting materials, waterproofing systems, and grout should be selected according to the installation conditions and TCNA guidelines. When slipperiness is a concern, the tile’s intended-use classification and DCOF performance should be considered under ANSI A326.3. Slip resistance alone does not determine safety; water, slope, contaminants, walking speed, and intended use can also affect surface conditions. For exterior areas exposed to direct sunlight, tile color and heat absorption should be considered, along with manufacturer recommendations for exterior use. Movement joints should also be incorporated where required in accordance with TCNA EJ171. Grout-joint width should follow the tile manufacturer’s recommendations and ANSI A108.02 rather than relying on one universal joint size..
